Hi, Windows 98 Second Edition hangs when I shut down.

Can anyone help me with the patch that stops this from happening?

I went to the Microsoft web site but was unable to locate a specific patch.

Can someone help me with this one?

Thanks

Actually, there is no patch for WinSE. It's built-in. Type MSCONFIG in a Run dialog > OK and click on Advanced in the General tab. Make sure that "Disable fast shutdown" is selected. If it is, there's likely a device hanging you up. Try unplugging USB devices and testing this again.

You may need updated device drivers. Also try disabling any background programs like AntiVirus apps.

There is a 504 KB supplement and it does considerably more than merely disabling fast shudown.

The Windows 98SE Shutdown Supplement (http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Win98SE/Default.asp) addresses shutdown issues on systems with specific hardware/software configurations running Windows 98 Second Edition. These issues include systems restarting when selecting shutdown and systems hanging on shutdown.

D'oh!

I stand corrected. That makes 5 mistakes this century. ;)

Nice work, guys.

I have had Windows shutdown problems caused by the closing Wave file. Corrupted, or Win simply did not like it during shut down. Go to control panel, sounds and delete or disable the Windows exit Wav file. See if this helps.
