IDE controller conflict

I have win 95A, from what I understand it is the most unstable version out.
My problem is that my CDrom keeps dissappearing, not recognized by win 95 but it is recognised in the boot up. I am showing conflicts in the device manager. Is there a web page where I can download better IDE controller drivers? I am using the "standard dual PCI IDE controller" now. If I try to remove the driver my whole system locks up.So I will try to load another driver if I can find one to download. If my cdrom was working, I would try to load them from my win 95 disk.I will go to win 98 but I need the driver first to get the CDRom working. Catch 22 I guess. Any suggestions.?

No need for multi-forum posting:

NO BS, you may have been infected with a boot sector virus.

You need to tell us about your motherboard?? Is it new? Did it work before? What kind of chipset does it have?

Do you have current antivirus software?

Try this, it may help if you have a boot sector virus:

First created a startup disk - note, the boot sector of this disk will become infected too if you have a virus:

Next, boot with the disk and type in fdisk /mbr at the prompt and press enter, after that transfer the system files off the disk to C: drive using the sys c: command,

Now, remove the startup disk and do a reboot by pressing the reset button..

IF you are lucky you will get a temporary reprieve from the virus and the conflicts will be gone - but you will need to get some good antivirus software right away.

Wait a minute C...

I had the same thing happen when I hooked up a HP 8100 CD-RW to my BH6. I unhooked it and put my other CD drives in and never a problem again!

If it was a virus, wouldn't it afect the primary controller?

Try this as well. @ the Run command, type regedit and hit enter. Now do a control F and type in noide. If the search locates a "noide" entry, then delete it. Exit the registry and do a restart.

If that was the problem, then the correct ide controllers will install on the reboot.

Thanks people, I have a BH6 & cel 300a at 374, with a creative labs 36x cdr.This is the 2nd time this has happened. The first time I had to take it in to a tech. He had to Del tree windows, and he must have loaded another versian of windows. 95b I believe. He didn't tell me and just recently I re installed my versian and here I am.

Try and see, if you physically disconnect the CD-ROM IDE cable, does the secondary IDE controller show a conflict after 2 reboots?

I'll try BBa. Hey FastEddie, nice going, your suggestion on searching the regesrty was right on. there was a noide entry, I deleted it and rebooted and my CDrom is ok, no conflicts now. I periodically dissapears though, I know now how to bring it back. Now I will try a win98 uprgade very soon.

I agree with CMonster-

Definitely sounds like you have a virus.
Download a trial from www.avp.com , preferably the DOS version. Run it from DOS,
FDisk /MBR right after and reboot.
