I looked at few and this time im not geting a WD drive coz from 10 i have like 7 died after 6 months and i didn't order at same place and yes i got new ones but i lost data, so i picked out two like MAXTOR MODEL # 6L040J2 40GB 7200RPM ata-133 8.0ms and a Seagate 7200rpm EIDE Ultra ATA/100, i want Seagate i have few and they all work fine no problems but Maxtor looks good with the ATA-133 but cost a bit more (im low on $ coz i have to get a ata card) is it allot faster then ata-100 (im on a 558mhz P3 system)? what to buy? RAID cards can i use one of the listed with a old wd 8gig ata33?.
Thanx

I believe that the ATA133 controller requires a PCI66 slot. Do you have one? If not, you may have ruled out the 133.
I'm sure that the ATA133 will be faster because of the faster bus. By how much, I'm not sure. If you don't have the bus, it's moot point.
Either drive should be fine. For long-term reliability, I can say that Maxtor is good - very good. Seagate I have doubts about. Although the newer models are sweet, the older (IDE) drives ran noisy and hot. When I hear noise and feel heat, I don't foresee long-term reliablity. To be fair, the two Seagate ST33xxxx A drives that I have have been reliable. To repeat, the new 7200RPM Seagates are an improvement.

PCI66 slot? wow no i don't think back then one was made on my Abit BH6, so then ata100 is the only way.
