Battousai^ 02-14-2002, 12:42 AM well Im planning on buying a PS2 but I really wanted my money's worth, what other benefits and features would PS2 bring me other than playing games and watching DVD movies? posthumous_GRIN 02-14-2002, 10:20 AM Well, you pretty much named the two uses for the system. I mean, that is like asking if I buy a car, what other uses can I get out of it other than driving around... Anyhoo, I think buying the ps2 is a good choice and if I had the cash, that is what I would get (that is, if I couldnt buy upgrades for my pc :D ) ironik311 02-14-2002, 07:45 PM http://www.psx2.com/ http://www.playstation.com/ these have all the information you'll need on getting a playstation. Not much else you can do with it other than play games and watch movies... I guess you could use it as a doorstop? Bizkitkid2001 02-14-2002, 08:50 PM You can turn it sideways on a bookshelve to keep books from sliding off. dmoltrup 02-15-2002, 01:32 AM Beware the Playstation2!!! It is very good at getting you to purchase a $50 game each time you go to the store!! It even coerced me into renting games for $5 on about eight different visits to my local supermarket! If only we could somehow tap its mind control powers and direct it to a more useful function, like sticking to a physical fitness plan, or a diet. Or perhaps it could help us out with females at the club? gibsinep 02-15-2002, 04:38 PM well i have a ps2 and like it very much. It has good games. Playing dvd and and games si pretty much all u get. But that is a lot. $50 for Ps2. Of course how much do you think Xbox or gamecube games cost? Computer games are around that much also. I would reccomend it persoanally. although in2-3 years PS3 comes out:) Bizkitkid2001 02-15-2002, 06:58 PM I wonder if the next game console from microsoft is going to be the YBOX? blackdragonME 02-15-2002, 07:31 PM All of you guys neglected to mention that in a few short months the PS2 will go online, And Get an opional hard drive. As a matter of fact online play is available now in the form of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 & a USB modem or Ethernet Adapter. While it may drain your wallet ,There are, And will be, other functions to this great piece of hardware.Digital Photography may also come into play eg.(Firewire port)  dmoltrup 02-15-2002, 08:16 PM Almost every game system since the Super Nintendo has promised the ability to expand the unit either on-line or linking systems together. Most have ditched any ideas, some actually produced it, but it really went nowhere. I think the greatest example of a company actually producing what they promised is the SegaNet. I think Playstation2 has a great possibility, though, because like mentioned before, it has USB and Firewire support. As long as they keep it standardized, ie. being able to plug my Zoom external USB modem right into the PS2, it's a great idea. Creating proprietary products for solutions, I don't think will work. As is said, I already have an external USB modem. If you were to buy one, you still have the capability to use it on a computer or with something else. I don't think it will catch on if they implement hardware any other way. Bizkitkid2001 02-15-2002, 11:05 PM How do you get the built in eithernet card on the XBOX to work. I have it hooked up to my modem and the green light turns on but is there anyway of figuring out if it works? Also are there any games out for the XBOX that use the internet capability? more_power 02-16-2002, 12:40 AM you can not use Xbox online capibilities yet they don't have the online system setup. oh yeah and just for the record PS2 is outdated get with the new, Xbox rules. the graphics are far better and the speed is also far better. but that is just my opinion. :) Bizkitkid2001 02-16-2002, 01:27 AM Originally posted by more_power you can not use Xbox online capibilities yet they don't have the online system setup. oh yeah and just for the record PS2 is outdated get with the new, Xbox rules. the graphics are far better and the speed is also far better. but that is just my opinion. :) I agree but PS2 does have more games out right now but Microsoft will soon be releasing about 150 games michaelwest 02-16-2002, 06:11 AM Instead of a PS2 I would buy an X-box. It can meet the PS2's speeds and graphics, but has so much more. It has a Nvdia graphics card which delivers up to 3 times the speed of the other systems. It also has its own harddrive which means you can download demo's and maybe even updates for games. TrojanPunisher 02-16-2002, 03:25 PM yeah when i was debating what to get at christmas time i got ps2 why you ask? cause i know 10 different people at school who purchased a xbox and played it for more than 6 hours straight like all hardcore gamers do and the bottom melted out and had to return play it safe go with the flow get ps2:):) Bizkitkid2001 02-16-2002, 03:29 PM How the hell would the bottom melt? I have had my XBOX on for about 24 hours not stop trying to beat project gotham racing and the case only feels warm. If they would read the instructions it sais not to put the XBOX in beatween things because then the fans can suck any air. They also say not to set it in a closed area like a bookshelf. Can't wait iuntill this summer. Thats when you will be able to download things using the XBOX!!!! dmoltrup 02-16-2002, 04:22 PM Game systems since the beginning of time have also suggested not putting them on a carpet. Rugor 02-16-2002, 04:36 PM We just got a PS2, and the kids love it. However the main reason we got it wasn't technical. It's that it has the games they want to play. That's the key, get a console for the games, they're what you play. crozeus 02-18-2002, 10:21 AM Definately get a xbox, they have like double the graphics peformance, plus it includes harddrive, and faster speeds. Check the nvidia website and then check sony to compare the ps2 and xbox specs, you'll see the difference. Also I think the xbox is built like a computer where you can take things out and upgrade in the future, might be wrong on that. If you do get an xbox get halo, great game! :) :) :) gibsinep 02-18-2002, 10:46 AM Dont buy a system for it specs or hardware. When it comes down to it games are what really matter. So what ever system has better games for you. Go for that one. Bizkitkid2001 02-18-2002, 02:46 PM Originally posted by gibsinep Dont buy a system for it specs or hardware. When it comes down to it games are what really matter. So what ever system has better games for you. Go for that one. I got the XBOX because of all the racing type games and different kind of shooters A lot of XOBX games that are out or coming out are games that we have never seen before. Like bloodwake and the game where you race CHARIOTS!! yes chariots the kind that have horses pulling them. Looks like a cool game because you play it like the game road rash. You knock the hell out of whoever trys to pass you. Another good game is wreckless. I got it last night and its got the best graphics in any racing game (Yes even better than Project Gotham racing<---- Have that one to)I like GT3 but the graphics aren't as good and I like project gotham racing's game play better. And my favorite game of them all is halo. There is nothing better than the shooting the hell out of little aliens who run away crying!!!! Muuuuhahahaha!! blackdragonME 02-21-2002, 09:48 PM Ok The X- Box Is cool I have to admit with its flashy ge force 3 graphics that put the PS2 to shame indeed. But graphics really don't Matter In the Video Game Industry , Money does.I could of Bought An X- Box Instead Of A PS2 but I did'nt . Why You ask? Because Sony Is A Brand I know, and trust like so many others who Bought a PS2 for that same reason over an X- Box. Video game publishers Know that The PS2 is harder to Make Games for than the X- Box, But Continue to fully support the PS2 over the X-Box because of the vast installed user base the PS2 has. More PS2 users= More games sold= More Money Made. Aside from console exclusives ,Expect To See Most Top notch games on PS2 first then X- Box. While pretty graphics Aside The PS2 will obviously continue to rule for a while to come. Leaving the X-Box as imitators instead of innovators:cool: blackdragonME 02-21-2002, 10:22 PM Sure Id Like To Own One, But I'd never Give Up My PS2 for it.I'd Like To Have An X-Box To to play the few games They did'nt port from PS2 like Halo, Bloodwake,Project Gotham,Etc. but aside from these, the PS2 Already has about 80% the Games that are out for X-Box. Most gamers won't want to play though a game they completed On PS2 because its released on X-Box with a couple of improvements (Eg. Onimusha Warlorlds,Max Payne, Tony Hawk 3,Metal Gear,Grand theft auto 3.)Which are all pretty much identical to the original but with the obvious geforce 3 graphics punch. You can buy HALO for the computer. So you don't have to buy the XBOX to play HALO. SysOpt.com
