Can you list your machine specification, please.
To re-install, your problems must have been causing you grief,
can you tell me what it was that made you reinstall, eg crashing in a game, sudden reboots, or what?

I f it is a new win install..if the HD seems OK I would think you might be haveing memory probs providing all your drivers are in right..VXDs are windows virtiural drivers

Ok.
Can you reformat your hard drive before you reload windows?
From the boot disk A: prompt
type FDISK c:\ or format c: to completey clear your HDD before re-installing.

Two things come to mind for me, 1) 32 mb is not enough to run Win98 very well, but it will run...slowly. 2) I had a very simular problem not long ago, and accidently corrected it with new ram modules. After the problems went away I started looking at the ram failures that may have caused this in the first place. I read where there is a chip on each ram module that controls the data it handles and the timing. If this chip starts flaking out, it will cause all sorts of Windows failures from Blue Screens to lockup because the OS dosn't know what is going on when the data called is incomplete or missing... so it stops with an error, like a blue screen, or simply locks up.

i did a full format drive, and reloaded windows as a clean install... my hdd was partitioned in half, and i ran fdisk to get rid of the partitions. i am trying to upgrade to at least 128 mb of memory, if not 256mb, but bipolar bill says the mobo i have only supports 64 mb of sdram..... i talked to my tech suport guy that i bought this computer from and he had 512 mb in but only then did it lock up alot.... i am just gonna try to upgrade my board or just low level it and see what that does.... my other idea is that the bios is too old.... i tried to flash it, but i dont have the program to do that.... lemme know if u have anymore ideas

In case anyone was interested the published system requirements for 98 and 98se are:
66MHz 486DX computer, with 16MB of memory
VGA monitor
Mouse or compatible pointing device
Keyboard
Floppy disk drive or CD-ROM drive
I'm sure everyone that has had experience with 98 knows this is complete S**T! You need at least a pentium 200mhz machine with 32mb RAM. Your system is running at pretty much the bare minimum.
reformat and try again... but I'd be aware that it probably will never run that well with your system

I just loaded Win 98se on a 66mhz DX2 with 24 mb ram last week. My wife wanted me resurrect it from the dead to use it for an office word processor. It's a slow dog but it's waggin' it's tail.

Same problem like a year ago with me. Reinstall you're VxD drivers. If you got a VIA chipset then just download the Via 4 in 1 Drivers.
VxD drivers should be on you're mainboard cd-rom. check it out if you haven't ;)

Do you have an old copy of win95. Seems that if you need the comp for utility work win95 might not be so taxing on ur sys. JIFFYPROGASM
