This is how it goes.... I need a cheap laptop computer to use with an Autotap AT2 OBDII scanner (Realtime engine diagnostic scanner). I want a laptop because bringing an old 20lb packard bell, a 40 lbs monitor, and a keyboard all down to the garage to scan the engine would suck. Plus, I dont want all of that in the car if im driving and scanning at the same time. Anyway, I walk into a local computer store to see if they have anything. As luck would have it, there's a Samsung 386/25 sitting right there on the floor, and they want $100. Its not exactly the caddy of laptops, it has dos, a monochrome screen, floppy, and 80mb hd. I only need a 286 and dos to use the scanner so its pretty much perfect for this app. Its pretty clean too so Id guess it hasnt done much lately besides sit in a closet somewhere. The case, ps and all docs are with it too. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks
I think it may be a little much, make them a offer I would guess there is not much of a demand for it. As far as the scanner it should be perfect for that I am using a 486 SX25 on mine. Does it have a small floppy drive or the large one? If just the large floppy I do not think you will be able to change it and this may or may not be important to you. It would be to me. Just something to think about.

small floppy. (Im guessing you mean 3.5in). I ended up buying a 486DX/100 for about $200.
9.5in TFT active matrix color, 500mb hd, 8mb ram, win95, 14.4 modem. The Autotap works wonderful with it. Thanks
P.S. You have an Autotap too? What kind of car? Im using this one on a Probe

The 486 you got is better. Better still would have been a pentium so you could use the other automotive interfaces out there. I normally use OTC equipment for reading the computers and GM or Ford specific equipment for altering parameters.
Well glad you like the laptop I dont think you would have been happy with anything less than a 486. I have a couple of race cars that I use the scanner on. Pretty neat deal.
