ECS k7s5a mobo
512 IMB pc100 sdram
vodoo 4 card (new one was bad RMA)
using on board lan
sblive soundcard

ok when i am playing any game doing any applications Like compiling C++ code, a lot of static is heard over my head set, and two diffrent set of speakers. My mobo has onboard sound so i made sure that was shut off and tried again. Then i took out pci sound card and tried it alone... Same results. I have tried each componet buy it self and can not isolate it. I have also tried to get rid of some of the electromagnetic interferance. No joy
Someone help before i place this board on ebay and go with something else.
Thanks

If I understand your question, you are getting static through the soundblaster card that is plugged into a PCI slot.

You hinted at eliminating the EMI. Did you do this with the option that disables the empty PCI slots so that the EMI is reduced?

Also, try arranging your PCI cards in a different order.

Download and install the latest Soundblaster drivers. I just updated and it eliminated my problems.

Are you by any chance using WinXP, as I have exactly the same prob since I've upgraded.

Creative Labs answer is to remove the card, uninstall all SBlive drives, reinstall card and use the original drivers off the SBLIVE cd.

Then, upgrade to the drivers from the website.

Unfortunatly for me, XP won't accept the drivers from the CD as they are win98 drivers and they don't seem to be able to find the card under XP. Dohhh.

Still trying to get creative to understand this..

the saying blood out of a stone seems to pop into mind.
