gateway pentium pro 180- looking for bios update so I can get full capacity from my drive. help!

Don't bother. Install a Promise Ultra100 TX2. The drives will work at full speed and you will have access to max capacity.
I doubt that the BIOS for that will allow anything larger that 8.4GB.

When I first got the computer it was at it's full capacity (20g) but since then, I had a main-boot record virusus. After dealing w/ that, I have not been able to return to my full capacity.

Try Zapping (http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm) the HDD. Zap will low-level format the first 128 sectors of the HDD and may allow full recognition afterward.
What bothers me is that the drive's electronics are what normally report it's size - not the disk.
