Is it just me, or does it seem that employers out there seem to want more from applicants than they themselves are willing to give?

What's with the silent treatment? If someone takes the time to personalize and write a custom cover letter, take a second to respond saying that the resume was received. All I ask is that small something.

If any of you out there reading this are employers, then please get your heads out of your asses and make an effort. At least your being paid to make an effort. There are a lot of us that are still trying for that awe-inspiring "employed" status and would sincerely appreciate some feedback.

Now I know that employers right now are being bombarded with resumes for open positions, and the typical excuse is that there are just too many to try to respond to every person. Keep in mind that some of us have sent out inordinate numbers of resumes and cover letters, and having to do this takes immense effort and also the will to not give up the search. Reciprocate that!

Here's a list of things I think employers should be doing out of common courtesy:
1. Send automated responses to applicants who submit resumes via e-mail just to verify that it was received
2. If someone takes the time to sends a personalized follow-up letter, respond and let them know the status of the position
3. Keep in mind that the applicants you're ignoring now are the ones you're going to be begging for when things turn around and return to the way they were last year

And what's with these jobs that are expecting unbelievable amounts of experience, education, and knowledge that pay just above $20k? Y'all, more than anyone else, really need to pull your heads out of your asses!!!! Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who takes those jobs are going to be serious flight-risks when things pick up again.

I'm getting off my unemployment soap-box now. Thank you.

Ditto to all of the above. I've been working for two months now after 5 months of unemployment so I know what your going through. I sent out about three hundred resumes. Maybe received 30 acknowledgements and a grand total of 8 interviews…
