I have a J-Bond PC1500C-Pa MB and I think the processor is bad. The System freezes as soon as the chip warms up.  I can't find info on what chips I can use, speeds, or jumper settings for this board. The base clock speed is clearly marked but I am not sure of The Multiplication factor to set the clock to match processor. Any help? J-Bonds site is off-line.

I personally think you might have a more serious problem. The processor heating up is a pretty fast thing. I tend to think it might be something else on the motherboard that heats up a bit more slowly, like a resistor or capacitor.
Approximately how long do you get before it locks up? Does POST report heat problems after a crash?
If it does take a while, try running a monitoring program to see your processor's temperature. Then run the following program, which is a CPU stability test. Try "warming CPU" tests, to see if you can speed up the crash. If not, it probably isn't the CPU.

Thanks for the input. The freeze-up does not take long. Just about the length of time it take windows(W98 old edition) to load completely. And by the way I have booted to dos (W95)from floppy to make sure it is not windows problem, and it still freezes in about the same time frame. Total lock up, no cntrl-alt-del, no mouse movement, only pwr down gets out. Have to decide if I should try CPU, MB or both. I will check my other MB's on hand and see if either will accept the AMD-K6 266 from this one. I have a couple of Socket 7's around but I am afraid they may not accept the K6. This was a really stable machine till all of a sudden. I have been running it as my Learning Linux Machine.

Update:rolleyes:  I found a offbrand 233 and stuck it in the J-Bond. I had no info on the chip so I don't know about the voltage, etc. It ran good (at 266} for about an hour and just gave it up. I stuck the AMD back in and for some unknown reason it works fine now. The freez-up went away. I'll probably never know why!!!

if windows is not loaded does it take just as long to crash or does it even crash at all?

Thanks for your interest.
Yes it locked up under dos and linux as well as windows
However if you read the update above, the mysterious problem is now gone.
