Ok i am going to be building my first computer. I am trying to choose what motherboard would be best for around a 1ghz athlon w/ddr ram. i am looking for something very upgradable. i was looking at ABIT KG7.is that board any good? also will any motherboard fit in any PC-case?

Abit makes great stuff. Go with your first impression.
All motherboards will not fit in all cases, though. If you currently have an AT case (split power connection to board), an ATX board will not fit. You need an ATX case that is AMD/Athlon approved. The power supply quality is critical. You can find one for much less that $100 if you shop. Perhaps some members have suggestions and links for you.

Abit = good.
I'd say Asus and maybe Gigabyte and MSI would be worth looking into.
For a first computer I'd sugest an Enlight 7237 case if you're on a budget.

why build one when u can get a half decent one already built for gaming from alienware for a good deal???? but if u build one, i would go with a tyan board, 512 mb ddr ram and an AT case from asus, gigabyte, or micronpc

...and an AT case from asus, gigabyte, or micronpc
The case would actually need to be an ATX case and, excepting MicronPC for their systems, those vendors don't make either.
