Earthlink has blocked all its customers from sending email with any other account besides Earthlinks pop servers. MAKES ME MAD. Is there anyway to get around the block, legally. I do not want to hack, so would it work if I just used a free service like AltaVista for my smtp?

You could try tunneling your SMTP protocol through the HTTP port 80. It is actually not that hard anymore, as several Win9x applications can automatically do this for you. I would recommend taking a look at the link and application I've listed below.

http://icqproxy.com/httptunnel_setup.exe
HTTP-Tunel can be configured for specific applications and port transfers. This will allow you to route all port 25 data through your http port 80, thus bypassing Earthlink's port blocking scheme. This application also works great for those wanting ICQ or RealAdio at work or college. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
Good Luck,

Heh, the ICQ Tunnel is the BEST! Our stupid senior techs blocked all our ports..so I used a port scanner(got caught http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif No trouble though, just a "don't do it again") and then I found the tunnel proggy...Rebuilding the ICQ Community one laptop at a time...

yeah, that's the best way to get around blocked ports for messenger services. the trick is that if the admins know what they're doing they'll block access to icq's domain and that will effectively shut you down. they did this where i work, but thankfully they didn't do it on one of the corporate firewalls out in california so i had to route myself through that one instead of the one here in dallas. *lol* everyone is complaining that they lost icq but i've still got it working like a charm. *lol*
