I have a PC100 Super Socket 7 Motherboard, American Megatrends Bios (Date 1995!). I had the hard drive replaced under warranty. I had a 6.4 and they put in a 20. A few days later my warranty expired and I began having trouble. Sometimes the Bios changes the Hard Drive parameters. I load them in two places, in Standard and Auto-Detect and of course save and exit. When I try to start the Standard is fine but the Auto-detect changes the setting to an 8.4. The machine won't boot and continues to change the parameters even after I save. The only way I can get up and running is to turn the beast on and off a zillion times, until finally it works. My battery is only 4 months old and I checked all of the cables and electrical connections. Can you help? It's probably time for a new computer but we are on a limited budget.
Thank you.

Yeah, quite possible your bios is a bit too old to recognize a 20 gig disk.

Or check your jumper at the hdd to make sure some weird cylinder limitation is not on.

Remember though, flashing a bios is always a risky business,

Good luck,

Thank you for the advice. I will check the switches, I don't really know what I'm looking for since the drive didn't come with any papers. I don't think I'll be flashing my bios, it might quit completely if it sees me in the buff!
