File Extention won't work

Hi every one!
Question :
I keep getting e-mail attachments with an extention (.XLS) It will only open in computer language of which I can not read.
Any one know what I would need to be able to read this attachment ?

Believe it or not ....I did have xl on my machine once but formatted....ha ha..
