Sup Sysopt members,
I;ve been reading this forum since my friend referred it to me a week ago and now i have finally decided to join in.

anyhow,
I was just wondering if any of you have one of those fancy projectors that can be hooked up to your monitors? basically, the projector displays your desktop onto a big screen (or a white wall).

i would like to know how much a decent projector costs.

thx

Sure, it is completely feasable BTW- Welcome to the board http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif. It really depends on the output options on the projector, the computer can probably compensate with that. For example- if the output from the monitor is serial, all you need is a serial cable. My school uses a projector, and are very happy with it.

Check here for price comparisons- http://ibuyer.sysopt.com/

Best of luck,

Michael Morelli

if you ever need some tech support give me an email (profile)- I hope to see you around the board.

There are several manufacturers of what your'e looking for. Barca is one that comes to mind when I think of quality. They run from a couple hundred up to $20,000. You don't need anything special to use them. If you get one that has Vid in (RCA jacks) you will need a vid card for the computer with a Vid out on it, Hauppauge makes vid cards with vid outs.

Here's a sample link: http://www.lionmm.com/projectors.htm
Just do a serch on Computer Projectors

P.S.:
If you get one with Vid ins (RCA type) instaed of SVGA ins (Computer type), it will be more versitile; you will be able to use it with your VCR to watch TV on as well.

oh my...$20, 000? heh i was planning to get one for personal use at home. I know there are $3000 ones at my school but aren't there decent ones for like $300-500? the models in my school don't use a special vid card, they have the plain ATI pci cards.

The price range I gave was "from a couple hundred to $20,000". There are different ways you can attack this; you can get a projection unit that hooks straight to your computer or you can get one that will require a vid line out and get a TV card with vid line outs to feed it. Personally, I'd get one that allows vid line in because it will be more versatile.

Shop around.
