Hey I normally don't play Quake as I am a Half-Life and Max Payne freak but I saw the older Quake 2 at Walmart for like 9 bucks so I bought it. I really like it as it is a cool game but I Have noticed some weird stuff. The graphics quality is for shxxxt. I have a very cutting edge system but I must have the settings wrong. In the Quake menue, it gives you options for a bunch of stuff, Resolution, Open GL, 3D, as well as a bunch of other video options. Can anyone please tell me what the best settings are for this game???
Also, it drives me nuts that it doesn't save my settings and I have to re-set them each time I turn on the Game.I know how to same gomes, that is easy but why can't you save yoiur brigtness and other video settings??? Please help. Mike

This sounds like corrupted CONFIG file. Look for CONFIG.CFG in the BASEQ folder and delete it. The next time you start Quake, it will recreate the file. You must then reconfigure the video and sound.

Use 1078x764, 16 Bit color and no Vsync. Type this in the console:

set r_displayrefesh 85

Use OpenGL. Use IdGamma (http://www.g256.com/idgamma/) to tweak video settings.

For sound, go full-bore.
