Yo ! (< just learned a new word http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif )

Can someone tip me for a free service to put my "under development" www-pages to, having some difficulties because I'd like to make a database with search-functions of my 1500+ record collection to web. (Why ? all the people asking "Do You have this and that...")
Anyway, my ISP don't support .asp, and I think for a beginner (read wysiwyg editor-user) asp would be the neatest thing to do it with. Or ?

Bright ideas are always welcome !

I'd recommend Intermedia.net for an NT host that supports asp but they aren't free. I'm not aware of any free web hosts that provide asp support.

Tepo,

I use Hostway.com for my NT barage...I got past NT and ASP, CGI is the way to go.

hey techjumper... can CGI do everything that ASP can? I'm only asking because I'm about to start doing a lot of stuff with ASP, but might spend the time to learn some CGI if it is better....

Tepo, if you can't find a server, make your own... I'm about to give it a shot... hopefully my ISP won't freak out!

My experience here in Ontario is that Telco(DSL) doesn't mind if you run a server. Cable wants money but they can't easily find you if you decide to run one without telling them. It is a marketing restriction and a provisioning issue with Cable, not technical. Have fun ...george

Thankz everyone, the list was great. Alltough I'm also considering CGI, the s*** in it is another "programming language" to learn... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif But hey. if it works, it's worth the effort !

I've used ASP, PHP and CGI... Out of the three, I like ASP and PHP the best. CGI just doesn't turn my crank. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

I tell ya- CGI/ PERL can make you life much easier. I am guessing you are using Access or something for your asp pages, my experience has been that it can only crunch a few (like 4) mods at a time- or it will capsize on ya.

cgi.resource.com very good collection of PRE written scripts that cover a wide variety of interests.

Scott- you can write CGI right? what resources do you recommend?

Best of luck tepo,

Mike
