Have you tried re-installing your OS?It's very likely that your computer needs a fresh install. That your mobo is dieing isn't very likely. It's also possible you have a/some breache(s) in your mouse cable.

Could be a heat-related prob -- all fans working? Dust heavy on components? Might try running w/cover off & small fan pointed at it.

...that my main board is dying??
Lately after boot up and once the OS is running my mouse will work for a brief period then strangely die like the plug came out! I've checked all setings, played with the port assignments, the plug IS plugged in...WTF?? After reboot the monitor won't come back up either unless I actually cut and then restore power...Any ideas??

Thanks in advance!

Get a digital voltmeter plug it into the system read voltage on first bootup then when failure occurs. I suspect pwr supply prob.hope this helps btw radio shack has a cheap dvm. barry

Sounds like you may need to get a better power supply (more wattage). I had a computer that would not run properly just because I put an extra pci card in (COMPAQ). Pretty much, my compaq just needed a little more wattage. Have you installed any devices?

But heat is prob the more likely problem, get out the air gun and undust that thang.

I know in my Compaq, I was running a couple of fans, a Ethernet card and an extra HDD for almost a year, before my factory 75watt PSU went out! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks to Mntsnow, we got it fixed right up! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks buddy!

Sorry for the delayed results...

First I replaced the power supply and the same things occured. Well I ended up replacing the board/processor and everything works fine now. I noticed on the old board that under system monitor the CPU was spiking continuously at 100% when idle! It was a cheapy board anyway so I guess I'm lucky it lasted this long... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
