Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : windows me hd partitioning
i just recently installed windows me and i actually like it. i got better pc performance then w/ my screwed up version of win98se that constantly had missing system files. but anyways, when i installed windows me it divided my hard drive into 8 partions so they were each less then 2 gig( i know because dos format can only handle 2 gig) but i kinda like it because i can put diff types of files in diff. partitions which can be easily formatted w/out deleting system files on c: i guess my question is if you guys recogmend this or is there an easy way to make it all one partition again without deleting files( proly not though) it does get a little confusing sometimes.

What it did was format your drive as FAT16 (2GB limit) instead of FAT32 (3TB limit). You need to get a Win98 boot disk and boot with it, type in fdisk at the a:\ and then say yes to the first question asked (would you like to use large file support). Then you can use your hdd any way you like instead of having those partitions.

yeah i know the whole fat16 deal but if i redo it as fat32 won't it delete everything.
im really too lazy right now to reinstall everything, besides my version win98se was screwed up so im not taking the risk of using its boot disk
That is correct, Jak. You will have to delete the partitons to make the new single FAT32 partition with FDISK.
Does WinMe have drive converter such as win98 had? System tools had the fat32 converter util that could be used to convert fat16 drives into fat32 ones. Or am I just recalling something that isn't. That wouldn't of course change the partitioning, but just curious. And no, I don't have fat16 drives =)
