I have an IBM Aptiva 2196 30A... and I'm looking for a sound card that would be compatible. A friend told me that because it's a genuine IBM it may be hard to upgrade to a new sound card.

I'm trying to record from minidiscs and tapes through the existing sound card that was already installed, using Spin Doctor but no matter what I do with the settings etc alot of hiss and noise is added and it's driving me nuts. I'm assuming it's the card.

Can anyone recommend a card that would be compatible? Or suggest any other solutions?

Thanks for any help!

Creative's sound blaster live platinum 5.1 (saw it advertised last week for $229Cdn.-take 35% off for American)has optical inputs/outputs which are less susceptible to interference, you can stay digital to and from your minidisc player.

I've looked at the SB Live Platinum but I'm not sure if it is compatible with my computer...
