The Pioneer 104s dvd-roms were out of stock for a long while and I never got my hands on one. Now the 105s is coming out... anyone know where to get one yet?? What's the difference between these 2 models? They only had the 105s product specs on the pioneerusa.com website. Thanks for any replies/comments about these Pioneers.

I had the pioneer 16X tray model since September and not one complaint. I got it for $112 back then, now it's under $100. It's the only drive in my pc and it's performing great.

I'm looking into the AOpen as well thanks to the recommendation. They seem pretty much the same except for the fact that the Pioneer is cheaper in price alone. One other thing that caught my eye...

"The only setback to the Pioneer drive is that it does not have a digital audio output to the soundcard."

Does the AOpen have this? Is it even important? I don't know the difference between needing digital sound instead of analog sound...

Hey rh71 that's what stopped me from buying the Pioneer 16x trayload when I was shopping for a new drive. Didn't trust the 16x slotload(this one has the digital out) mechanism until my buddy bought one which seems to perform very well(no scratched discs so far). I'm glad I got a drive with the digital out, allowed me to hook up the dvd and cd-rw to my sound card.

Yeah, I read the slotload drive only grabs the CD by the sides... I wouldn't expect any scratches at all.
