I've searched and haven't seen this subject broached. I have a HP CDRW and found out while backing up some sub-directories that it won't accept long file names from my W95 OS. I contacted HP Tech Support and she said they've never done that but they're working on a fix. WHAT WAS HP THINKING?!? Faster at backing up than tapes and easier access, the CDRW is great except I loose all my descriptive file names. What concerned me is the tech said it was the same problem with floppies and I know I've saved LFN's to floppies. Anybody know of a work around or program fix.

What is the software being used. It's the software, not the writer. There is probably an option - if not try some other software.

listen to Gentle G.
You CAN use LFN's if the software you are using will save your image to be burned in a ISO mode 2 format(correct me if I'm wrong) I beleve mode 1 is the "standard 8+3" format and mode 2 is the LFN format.
What software you using?
I use both Adaptec's and Nero

hey mntsnow:
how do you get both nero and adaptec's software to run on the same system? i heard that adaptec's soft didn't like to play nice and trashed other burning apps on the same system. mainly i wanted to use directcd with nero. thanks

I have had to turn off the DirectCD portion of the Adaptec software (uninstalled it) so i still have Easy CD creator and CD Copier deluxe and then had to RE-install my Nero software...Now I have both avalible to me http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I have seen others have the same problem that I had. From one of the CD Burning BB's Is where I read to Uninstall DirectCD and then Reinstall Nero to have it work with Both software's.....I have yet to be able to have DirectCD work with Nero in the same system http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif But if I uninstall Nero I can have DirectCD with my Plextor software and have Both work properly. Go figure that out! LOL
If you find a way to have ALL of adaptec's software and Nero working PLEASE let me know TOO!

Sorry about delaying a response; I tore my overclocked P75 down to upgrade with a K6-2-400 (VAROOOOM!!)
Yes, I should have realized it was the software. Concerns me about the HP tech, though. Why would HP be working on a fix for Adaptec Direct CD (the offending software)? I'll try the mode 2 format. You all seem to like Nero, I'll try that, too.
I'm grateful for you all taking time to respond, thanks
well i don't know about adaptec's, but some people report being able to use CeQuadrat's PacketCD packet (duh!) software. also seagate has some packet backup software but i haven't heard a report on it yet.
disregard that last post - another site warned against using the two (packetcd and nero) together and seagate's stuff is supposed to be just as immature.
here's a review of directCd that might help though:

(under reviews of course)
