Hey,

I'm an avid fan of RPG's and I was wondering (before I drop $50) if anyone has played Wizadry 8 and if they liked it? I/ve never played any of the first 7 so I don't know the layout.

Thanks for any responses.

Um ya.

I have the game, and all i can say is THANKGOD i didn't shell out half a hundred dollars for it. It pretty much sux. Although i never did like the Wizardry series, i though i might give number 8 a try. It looks amazing, but when you get into, if you can, it really sux. If you looking for a good old-school type RPG i'd wait a bit longer... cause wizardy just doesn't cut it.

if you want i'll sell you mine.

(POLICE! POLICE!)

take care,

Hi Todddster,

I'm a true RPG player.....going back to the days of Wasteland and Bards Tale. In fact, some of my favorite games include:

Ultima IV (played the entire series!!)
Wizardry VII (played the entire series!!)
FFIII (played the series up to FFIX)
Master of Magic......favorite of all time (played it like 1000 times)
Might & Magic series although some of the later ones were weak.

I have Wizardry 8 and am 3/4 of the way through the game.

The game is old school rpg with some pretty slick graphics, especially the monsters and NPC. The story does get involved as you progress in the game although nothing like Planescape (I felt too much reading/story in that one).

I feel the game is better than the Baldurs Gate series and while it's not the perfect rpg, there isn't anything that has been released in quite a while that can boast being a whole lot better than Wizardry 8.

JeffD

I disagree with you there, I played the original Wizardry on a Mac, and I still feel that was the all time best RPG. I played every Bladur's Gate/Icewind Dale games and still have to say this is the best RPG series currently released...

Hi Lycia,

I guess we can agree to disagree.

What one person enjoys may not be applicable to what other people enjoy. For that reason you find certain games more enjoyable than others and I, along with others, may or may not agree with your viewpoint. This does not mean that your or anybody elses opinion on a game is WRONG.......nope.....

So while you like IWD games I found them too much hack&slash and short on story/NPC interaction. On top of this I generally enjoy first person rpgs better than third person and I find the character generation of the Wizardry series (esp. Wiz VII) much superior to that of the BG and IWD series (ahh...the memories of spending hours creating that perfect party in Wiz VII.....rolling that Faerie ninja...now that was a real b^%#h!....uhm challenge).

Also, if you haven't noticed, Wizardry 8 has received near unanimous praise in reviews and in usenet. Just check out the rpg newsgroups and see how it is dominating discussions....just like BG did when it came out. So one could effectly argue that the best of the MOST RECENT rpg releases (i.e. in the past year) may include games like Wizardry 8 and not BG/IWD (NOT released in the past year and most likely rpg players have already played them if they were that good).

I just got the demo and to say I was not impressed is a understatment..this is my first play of this series but the onlything I liked about it was the sound and that was'nt all that great..but the worst aspect is the controll..it offers freelook, but you have to steer with the keyboard rather than just pressing the forward button and sterring with the mouse

Hey,

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll stick to Tac ops and CS for now.

Hi Monster1,

I know quite a few people really weren't that impressed with the demo but did enjoy the whole game.

Your comment on steering is exactly what I was leading into with my last post here.......

---you dislike using the keyboard and would rather use the mouse to move forward while I hate it when games use this feature and would rather use the keyboard for movement and the mouse to steer.

Also, I noticed your comments on the game are mainly relegated to:

--Sound
--Control

I noticed no comments on what a true role playing gamer would be examining when evaulating a role playing game.......uhmm....

---The role playing engine, story and NPC interaction

How was that in your opinion?

Is Wizardry anything like diablo2? cause I really hate diablo, no offense guys.

Hi crozeus,

Actually no.......it's not like Diablo II. Wizardry series is much more RPG than Diablo's hack&slash....i.e.

--A more in-depth story (aka Baldurs Gate)
--More NPC interaction
--More dialogue
--Less fighting
--More tactical fighting
--More designing your character/building traits as you increase levels (such as lockpicking)
--First person vs. third person and you have a party of up to 8 characters.
