I need to know how to permanently direct Win98SE to the CAB folder instead of asking for the Win98 cd.
I also need to set the default install path to the D: drive instead of wanting to install on the C: drive.

Thanks.
Dave

Well, for the first one, here's the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup

Just change the string named "SourcePath" to whatever you want it to be.

As for the second, look in the same key for a string named "AppsDir" and change that one to whatever you want it to be. I'm not sure if this is the correct one to change, so maybe wait to initialize this one until someone backs me on this.

Hope this helps.

Since you like to change some of the default settings you might be interested in this one. My personal favorite. When I go to save a document or what ever my Save box is opened up on "My Documents" or "Desktop". If you would like to have it open to your C:\ folder to start with, open regedit and follow this path:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

Personal............."C:\My Documents"
and remove or change the "My Documents"
Personal............."C:\"

Or to what ever default you would like. I never save anything in to "My Doc's" so why not have it open up on a more general folder.

Cheers!

When I set up a puter for a house hold that doesn't know file system I do this for them and teach them a little about file system. Easier to learn if what you want is right in front of you. eg: I give everyone in the family a folder in C:\ called "A Mary's Stuff" and "A Brad's Stuff" and "A John's Stuff". When they go to save something their personal folder pops up in front of them on the first screen. Works pretty good for newbies. Keeps the garbage easily found before system maintanance routines.

Cheers!
