How can I get Windows 98 to recognize my newly installed CDRW as my choice of drives for backing up? I hate the thought of using all those floppies! :(

I hate the thought of using all those floppies! :( rangeral 02-01-2002, 02:33 AM Did you install the software that came with it? Or if you bought this as OEM you'll have to buy a burning app for it or backup software like powerquest's Drive Image or norton's Ghost both are well known. VaCreeper 02-01-2002, 08:19 AM Thanx for the reply! Yes, I do have software with my burner, and I can(and have) burned many of my files and progams for backup. I just wanted to know how to get widows to do the backup so I don't have to do everything individualy. I will go to symatics site and check out ghost. I assume from your reply that this program will allow me to back everything up at one time. Again, thanx. VaCreeper 02-01-2002, 01:44 PM Looks like Ghost is just what I am looking for. Thanx!:) :) 195th_Creeper VaCreeper 02-02-2002, 02:23 PM OK, I got ghost and made a clone of my hard drive. When I do my upgrade, and gut and replace the innards of my computer. I assume that I will have to reformat the hard drive. After doing this will my clone install everything, drivers especially, that I was using before the upgrade? This is where it gets scary:eek: Thanx 195th_Creeper BipolarBill 02-02-2002, 07:21 PM Ghost will lay waste to anything on the C:\ drive and install everything the way it was before. This would be bad. Instead, install Ghost on the new machine and open the Ghost image that you created with Ghost Explorer. You can then selectively restore your data. If you feel especially bold, just install the old HDD in the new machine and boot. Once all the new drivers are installed, boot to Safe Mode and tidy up a bit. VaCreeper 02-02-2002, 10:24 PM Thanx again! You've been a big help. I'll keep you informed as to my progress. I hope to purchass the upgrades as soon as the wife releases the funds.(birthday gift) She is all for this by the way. Says it keeps me out of the pool hall;) Again thanx! 195th_Creeper SysOpt.com
