just bought my first USB device, have two ports, memorex scanner. cant get it to work, I have the driver in. think the problem is the MGI Photo suite lll SE. think I need this. when I try to install get msg. "requires 800x600 (this I have) then Hi color 16bit, will abort," and it does. cant find a bit setting, have 256 color. there is no switch I assume that is controled by the comp. Help http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif pls.

Do ya think it's asking for the display settings to be changed, strange..

If so, go to your desktop, right click and go to properties.
Then, settings. Drag the slider, and choose 16 bit in the box.

I had a USB prob on a box that I think was a build up of sorts..

Initially the port didn't work, after plugging in a few times it started.

USB is a "Hot Plug" device meaning you can swap ports while the computer is running.

You should get the "Add hardware wizard" when you plug in the cable.

As far as your software goes, maybe get the drivers from Memorex and download Paperport to do the pretty work. At HP it's a rather large download, I'll see if I can find it if it is what you need.

I'm probably all wet on your problem, but HEY,, I tried http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Making progress I always test stuff in my backup box, it only has 16 color and 256 went to my main. better vid card has the other color settings, have the control panel up. now need to learn how to use it. more later.

Depending on how much related(twain)software you have loaded , this may help or not.

Once you have the main scanner page up,
go to File, drop down to "select source"

Choose which "twain" software you wish to use, I have several softwares installed on one box.

Then go back to the main page,
Click the "scan" or scan preview button

If NO button visible, go back to file, drop down to "Acquire"

let us know how its going.

p.s.
a image for the web is usually 72dpi
a color photo that you are NOT gonna enlarge is about 200 dpi
a color photo you ARE gonna enlarge is diff.

I use mainly 300 dpi for enlargements.
Some photos require more due to crappy development.

Main point here is, on Photos for the home,
us as small an image size as you can because too large a resolution only bogs the pewter and printer..
