Hello all: I just installed a second HD, i jumpered it to be the slave to the first unit. (I think, could not get info from samsung about jumpers) left setting as they where. I did get the jumpers correct on the second drive, westerm digital (had the manual). Now when I boot up the second drive jumpered as slave, boots first. Now I understand that maybe bios assigned this as the boot disk with the primary sector. How do I go about changing this? BIOS or reboot with differing settings? Thanks again JIFFYPROGASM

You did not say which Samsung harddrive you had but try here for most:

http://www.samsungelectronics.com/hdd/support/downloads/user_guide_02.html

Depending on the manufacturer some HD's have a default setting for the unit as a single drive, and then a second setting for multiple drives.

Your BIOS will determine the boot order.

If you have connected your new drive to IDE0 it will be assigned the drive letter C by windows. The OS assigns the letter C to the first physical drive, first partition. Then D is assigned to the first partition of the second physical drive. E then is assigned to the first logical drive on the first physical drive. And so on down the line.

Hope it helps. :)

Hello all: In addition to the earlier Q.
I checked the samsung site, drive is jumpered correctly for master. The Western Digital drive is also correctly jumpered for slave. I checked my bios ditto to the above. What I did find was the cable was wrong, master was plugged into the center, corrected, did not solve the problem though? Slave drive continues to boot first?
Another thing of note, the master drive has win2000pro and the slave has Red Hat 7.2 How do I get the Red Hat to show the drives? I am a Linux newbie to the max (minimum, rofl). I use the KDE desktop. I'll check back in the AM.
