I just got a Pentium 133, with 32RAM,
3.2gb h/d, cd-rom, sb16, and a good m/b with 2 USB ports, but I don't know what to do with it. What I might want to do, is get it to dial up to the internet, and share it to my main computer, I was using Linux b4, but I don't like it, what are your thoughts on using Wingate? My friend sais it's the biggest security flaw in history, but I dunno.

Well, there are two things that come to mind:

1.  Give it to me.
    Why?
      i.  I need a computer.
ii.  I need a computer that doesn't suck.
          (Mine's a POS ComCrap laptop.)
iii.  And I REALLY need it.

2.  Start cracking up those cows!
      i.  Because it is your civic duty as a fellow SysOptian.
     ii.  Need I say more?
iii.  So, just go here:   http://www.sysopt.com/rc5team.html (http://sysopt.earthweb.com/rc5team.html)

But seriously....

Don't go with Wingate. I've used it before at a friend's house and it SUCKED. It's GUI was OK, but it lacked totally in features and useability.
And your friend is right, it's a VERY large security flaw, so there's a big reason not to use it.

Just my humble opinion.

Later.

Cujo

A few options:
1) Turn it into an MP3 Jukebox.
2) Turn it into a Nintendo / Atari / Genesis (Go to www.thegamer.net (http://www.thegamer.net) ).
3) Turn it into a door stop / stool / grill, etc.

You might want to overclock it too... If it's anything like the socket 7 systems I've seen, it'll have a small heatsink, no thermal paste, and an unlocked multiplier http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif.

donate it to a single mom that needs one for her children or a daycare...to them it will be the best thing under the tree

Yeah, I whacked a mammoth heat sink and fan on it, and i can overclock it via jumpers on the m/b, i could prolly push it to something like 150ish safely.

Actually, I think I'd have to agree with codybear. If you have no use for it, other than an auxilary computer, I think it would be better to give it to someone who would really appreciate it. It could make someone's Christmas great.

giving it away is a great thing, but a word of warning, before you do, clean out every thing on thr HD that has any personal info, just saw a program on that, they went to a thrift store and checked HDs unbeliveable what was on some of them including banking info and passwords.

If money matters to you, you can also get a tax deduction by donating it to a non-profit such as the Salvation Army or other groups. They can put it to good use, they make sure it works OK then give it to needy low-income families. This is a great time of year to help others out and it would probably be greatly appreciated. Or if you know a needy family... you could really make it a good Christmas for them. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
