I try to keep my desktop as clear as possible. Just a few icons like My Computer, Network, Dialup Connection and a DVD player shortcut. I like to throw everything else in the quicklaunch bar. That way, it doesn't clutter my nice looking wallpapers. Screen resolution is typically set at 1024x768 for my Viewsonic PS-790 (19") monitor.

Eh, I'm too lazy to take a screenie of me in Blackbox so here is one from about a month ago when I'm in KDE.

http://maverick.mahan.net/desktop4.jpg

And that would be me in KDE under Mandrkae 8.0. I have since bought Mandrakre 8.1 and moved onto Red Hat 7.2 and right now I'm in Blackbox and really pissed at Apache givin' me that darn 500 Internal Server Error on my CGi apps!!! Chmoded correctly and everything. Oh well, not much I can do.

[root@praetorian /]$ rm -rf ;) :D hahahahaha!!!!!!

Can't figure out how to put images in here so I'll just attach it.

BTW, that is WinXP. I just couldn't stand the cartoonish gui, so I went back to a 98 style.

Just out of curiosity, did you get Starcraft to run properly on WinXP? If so, how. Does it cause your processor to overheat? Mine does.
Don't want to clutter this post, so you can e-mail me if you want.

im sure the good people of sysopt wont mind a small detour.
I have had no problems with starcraft or brood war with xp (so far) I play them relatively often. they are both patched to v1.08b if that means anything. Doesnt make sense that it would make your cpu overheat. sorry i couldnt be of more help. but if its a big prob post it in gaming maybe someone had a similar experience to yours (and hopefully a fix) ;)
good luck

btw i am using xp home

I'm on WinXP pro and I haven't had any problems with Starcraft or Broodwars whatsoever. What kind of a video card do you have? Maybe for some odd reason it's putting the burden (not that it's much of one, I mean it's a pretty old game) on the cpu?

I really don't know much about that, but it's a guess.

And here's my desktop. I have a program that rotates the background every 15 minutes, but this is one of the nicer pictures :p

I've already posted in the games forum and got the usual stuff. Non of which is the problem. I contacted Blizzard and they basically called me an idiot. I may just wait to play until I get my new case, better HSF and my SCSI RAID system hooked up :D

I don't know if this is going to help but Over Heating is caused by fan that spin slow, you got to get a better fan, only solution.

I like my desktop uncluttered, too. I'd much rather use the Quick Launch Bar for access to frequently needed files and programs.

I've got more wallpaper that you can shake a stick at! I have a couple hundred different photos in a folder, right at the moment ... I kinda get bored with the same view after a while.

This is my first Star Trek desktop. Usually, it's some wild chick layered on a Photoshopped background. <GRIN>

Nice desktop Toejam31
I'm a big Trekkie :D
One thing though: How did you get your clock to look like that? I like it.

Thanks!

I'm nearly a Trekkie, but I don't dress up in polyester fabrics without lots of encouragement from green-skinned babes. And I'll never be able to listen to Bill Shatner "s :o g" without crawling under the nearest sofa. LOL!

Go here (http://www.softshape.com/) to check out the clock.

See ya!

I don't dress up either, but I am a big fan of the shows, especially Next Gen and Voyager. I have a lot of my favorite episodes on my computer. :D
