Hey guys! I have finally put together all parts to my dream machine except the processor. The reason I haven't put the CPU in yet is because I first ordered a T-bird 1ghz 384K Cache CPU from buy.com and they sent me a standard 1ghz athlon... So I am in the process of returning that chip and I am going to attempt to order another one (384k T-bird) from buy.com, but their out, sooo I go to Pagecomputer.com and order one from them (A FRIGGEN 1GHZ T-BIRD WITH 384 CACHE!) and they send me a standard athlon just like buy.com did... I think that’s a little weird but I dunno.... What do you’ll think about this?

I think you're a little confused. A t-bird is an Athlon. There are only 2 kinds of T-birds, slot-A & socked-A. The BOTH have 384k cache.

Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken.

Are all currently sold Athlon's T-bird in Slot A?

AMD's website calls the T-bird the Athlon with Performance Enhancing Cache.
The original slot A Athlons had 512K L2 cache, but it ran at less than half of the core speed. The T-birds are Socket A, and have 256K L2 cache that runs at full processor speed.

Just for clarification, the T-birds have 128k L1 cache & 256k L2 cache making for 384k total cache (all of it running at full processor speed).

So? Overclocked...what's the scoop here? Were these incorrect or defective CPUs? Or are ya too embarrassed to reply to this thread again? http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Don't worry, I could write an ongoing series of books about my mistakes.
