Hi everyone,

My questions are:
Can I have an extra LAN card? If so, does that mean my uploading, downloading and browsing will be faster?

I am running Windows 2000 and sharing a cable modem with my roommate through a router. I have a couple of ports available on the router. Can I install an extra LAN card and take advantage of those available ports?

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Yes you can have an extra NIC card, and it will work, provided you configure them properly. No i don't think that will speed up your connection speed. I have seen it work and in fact, it is quite a troublemaker. Definitely not recommended, unless you need to have simultaneous connection to two different server that require two different ip. Hence two NIC.

Your connection between the router and computer is faster than a cable modem to internet. End result making the connection between your computer and the router (or even the cable modem) will not speed up your internet connection. The cable internet connection is the weakest link.

Just to chip in here as well. Most of the setups I've seen involving two network cards in one machine is to configure the pc as a server (doling out IP addresses) and acting as a firewall for the rest of the network.
