I have seen many but some negative reviews on the drive. I am looking at the ultra wide version. Are these drives now dependable?

Andrew, I can't personally vouch for the SCSI versions of the Castlewood Orbs, but I can say I haven't had any problems with the 2.2gb EIDE version. I should mention the fact that I only keep non-essential data on the disks just in case that "unreliability" factor happens at any moment. Much of the comments and reviews I've seen have ripped into Castlewood for their unreliability, but I took a gamble and purchased the EIDE version and have been pleased with it. Unfortunately, it really doesn't make any sense to purchase these any more because of how cheap hard drive prices are currently (they are better in terms of value, than Zip & Jaz drives). Especially if you intend to use these Castlewood Orbs as fixed drives. If you really needed portability, you could pick up a couple of slider drives from Lian Li and throw a bay into two pcs and be able to swap drives between them if you wanted to.
