I didnt know where to put a sound card problem so I thought I would just put it here. I'm using a SoundBlaster PCI 128 with windows xp, amd athlon 1.33ghz, 128 crucial ram, 30 gb western digital hard drive. I'm using the latest windows xp drivers for this card and it seems to have a problem. The sound is all crackly and fuzzy, i've tried 3 different sets of speakers and a pair of headphones and it still does it. I also had this problem in Windows 2000, but not in 98 or ME. When I am playing an mp3 and I click the mouse the song cuts out and if i keep clicking then it speeds up... also in games the sound is all crackly. I really dont know what is happening. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

few things.
go to system properties and open the sound cards properties and go to settings.

make sure Midi is set to 8MB not 2MB
Output mose - autosense
S/PDIF - Analogue ad digital (or just analogue)
Legecy Emulatiob enables with the internal sysnthesiser selected.

Also with some SB cards take the jack plug out of the socket and place it back in 1/2 way or less and see if you can hear the better sound keep fiddling with it until the sound comes out. But try above first

Creative is not supplying workable drivers for Windows XP.
Go to their site or Microsoft's site and download the new XP drivers. Windows may give you some difficulty automatically installing the drivers. You can always do it manually through device manager driver update.
Also, make sure you have the Microsoft XP compliance upgrade installed for your O.S. It is available at the XP upgrade site. ;)

Since it is about sound card, I want to put down one experience here. My win98 use the old PC-Media sound card. It is ok for routine windows' softwares but not adequate for many games. Duke Nukem produced no sound, fifa 2002 occasionally produced some sounds that was choppy. Suggesting getting latest driver? Wrong, I downloaded it from the automatic update through IE, fifa 2002 crashed with a black screen -> another proof that latest driver of anything isn't the best thing to do.
