Oh yeah, RAM does burn. Makes a realy bad smell at that as well. A few years back I had just purchased a stick of 256 for around $220 and I threw it in the rig. The only thing is that I didnt puch the DIMM in quite all the way. Fried my chip. *sniff* :(

If it is burnt, take it out and give it a good sniffing.
Smell will be unmistakable. If not go sniff everything else on your mobo, it might the culprit.
Keep sniffing till you find the offending article.

More than likely you fried the ram slots. If you can, get some new ram and try it on the old board...

When you put RAM (or a CPU or an expansion card) into any mobo socket, you should always turn the power supply off at the rear switch or pull the power cord. Unless you do so, the +5v standby rail on an ATX power supply is "hot" even when the system is off.

If the RAM is burned, then you should see it.
It seems to me that DDR requires less voltage, am I right? If so, then you could really fry your RAM.
