Free internet question.

My family has AOL. I hate it with a deep dark burning passion and wish only bad things upon them. So I have decided that I will download a free internet service and use that instead. My problem is that I have downloaded two of them and they both use the same internet dialer and when I try to connect to them through it, it says "Dialing........" and nothing happens after about 5-10 minutes so I picked up phone to see if it was doing anything and it was a regular dialtone with nothing else. Why is it doing this and what can I do to fix it? I reeeeeeeallly need to connect to them because of my hate for AOL. Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, I'm trying to connect with AltaVista's free net service and Freelane by Excite.

I've used alta vista for about 1-1/2 yrs now and like it.

Freei.net is now NetZero, no Toll Free dialing for me anymore.

My g/f's pewter didn't like AV as yours seems not to either.

I seem to remember that there is a conflict when using a machine with AOHell and other ISP's, maybe someone with live grey matter can assist.

I really liked WorldSpy and Freewwweb, especially after Freewwweb gave out DNS numbers and you didn't have to download anyting, but they are dead now http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I've used a lot of the free isp's(Altavista,Netzero,Worldspy,Freei,Juno,Addres s, etc.)and found that most of them had a dang banner, or had real slow connect speeds, or both.
The best one of the group was Worldspy, but Juno took them over.(by the way, Juno REALLY sucks).
I'm currently using Infree.

infree has the fastest server I've ever seen..

With my conn today at 46,667 the Gozilla showed download rate spiking from 11k to 13k WOW !! The avg was nearly 7k, a NEW high..

Unfortunately, Infree may go the way of WorldSpy w/o any advertising banners. And remember what a super-power WorldSpy was! I only got to enjoy it for like a month too.
