You can hook up two computers through the same phone line if each computer has a modem, right? I have two computers and wanted to network them, however one computer doesn't have a networking card, just a modem. The other one has a modem and network card. I want to be able to share files. Oh yeah, both computers would be hooked up to the same phone number. If it's possible to use a modem, would someone tell me step by step how to do it? Thanks!

You can't use both modems at the same time.
I think your best bet would be to go get another NIC for the one computer and a "Crossover" cable. Your can hook 2 computer directly together, NIC-to-NIC, using this special cable. A straight-thru Cat5 cable will not work to do this. The 10/100 NIC will cost around $10, and the cable $5+, depending on length. You might consider using two identical NIC's.
Once you have the computers connected this way, you will be able to do network shares. How this is done depends on which operating system you have.
Also, with some operating systems (Win2000, for one), you can have a modem in one networked computer and use it from other computers on the network.
