How would i go about doing this?
i want to move/copy some data from my old harddrive to my new hardrive?
i dont have a cd burner and i dont think it's right to use 80 floppy disks to transfer 5gig of mp3s and other zipped stuff.
I may be missing something in your question, but...
Why not connect the new HDD to one of the IDE channels and copy the data from the existing HDD to the new HDD??? You can connect a minimum of 4 IDE devices on the two IDE channels that you have on your M/B. If there isn't an empty IDE channel because they are all used up, just disconnect one temporarly until you get the saved data on to your new drive. And if you IDE cable doesn't have two fittings to connect 2 devices simutaneously, either (1) buy another cable that does, (2) temporarely disconnect the CDROM drive until you get the data transfered.

set the new hdd's jumpers to slave...this should solve your problem

I would have done that...but...
it doesn;t even get past the part where you can enter into BIOS.
i think i might know the problem..
do i take the IDE cable out of the CD ROM and replace it with the 2nd HDD?
what i did was that i used the middle part of the IDE cable from the 1st HDD.

If you are trying to connect the new drive to the same ribbon (channel) as the current C:\ drive then make sure the new drive is set up as slave. Check the jumper settings at the power supply end of the drive. However, there are some drives that don't like to be slaved with drives of another make. I have a Seagate that refused to load windows and/or get past the POST up screens when it was slaved with my Western Digital. I had to run the Seagate as master on the secondary IDE.

No you got it right, i thought that was possible so i did do that, but...
the system couldn't boot up into windows, dont know why.
do i have to go through some BIOS configs?

well i did away with the jumpers and set it as a slave, but windows does not show the 2nd HDD. the BIOS detects it but windows doesn't show it.
i figured that the old HDD has a really old BIOS and cannot be detected by a newer one (and vice versa).
