When I check my speed at Dsl reports, My download smokes, but my upload is around 50k which is evident when I try to publish to my web sites. Is there something I can do on my machine or is it the ISP(@home).When I first had it instaled It was reporting 700k upload.

I also ran across a program last night called F@#!KUPC that is supposed to bypass upload caps on cable modems, anybody know anything about it?

from what i heard theres no real way to uncap @home. Here try this site out. http://www.tweak3d.net/ i think they have some stuff for at home.

You might try an uncapped modem, but I think the speed is capped elsewhere anyway.

Don't waste your time with the cable modem upload uncapper (do a search within the last nine months on here, there is a HUGE thread on that). You cannot uncap the speed becuase it is done on the @home servers. Mine, here at my house, is capped at 15k (I was a bad boy I guess...**** napster and IRC sharing) and at my office, I get around 50-80k. they are about a mile apart.

Yeah, thats almost my only complaint about @Home http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I get 65KB/sec MAX upload http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I still host my website on it though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

What are you complaining about MTP? 65KB/sec rocks! Most of us are capped at 128Kb which equals about 15KB.

Yeah! I'm capped at 128Kbits as well! Only uploads like 13k to 15k.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I'm curious, what speeds are all of you download at?

Dsl Reports typically shows my download connection at 3500kbps, MSN 4000

This is fairly typical for late night downloading:

846KBytes/sec max (6768Kbits/sec)

500+KBytes/sec avg (4000Kbits/sec)

Thanks for the animated picture Out. Even though I am not on a cable connection, I thought I would post pictures from various speed tests anyways. One question I have for you guys, why does the cable provider think they have to kill your upload speeds?

Anyhow, I am in rural Oklahoma, in a small town working for a telecommunications company, running Etherloop DSL. Etherloop DSL is a new type of DSL (just coming out to the public) made by Elastic Networks. Basically, you can setup a LAN in the CO of the telecomm with an Etherloop attached, then have a LAN at your house with an Etherloop attached, then when running, the etherloop serves as a gateway between the two networks. Works very very well, I love being able to PcAnywhere my computer at work from the house at 3-4Mbps. Etherloop is in terms, just like a NET-to-NET box, only it works MUCH faster than 1Mb.

Wow, I just read the above post and decided to test mine since I haven't in a while. It is 8AM and I hit this on Bandwidth Speed Test:
2472.7 Kbps
303 K Bytes/s
My fastest ever by far. Noone else must be on...
As for uncapping, you could go to jail for it from things I have read. It is not worth it to me. My ULs reach 40-45k/s.

The reason for the upload caps is to discourage people from having servers running on cable modems.

My upload is about 126kbps.

estimated line speed (K bits per second): 3996.1
estimated line speed (K bytes per second): 489.7 While I have 2 downloads going in the background.

C'mon people!!! Give us a link here...

Where do I find this uncap thing.
And I'm from SWEDEN, so don't say that it's illegal, cause I dind't sign anything... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

i believe the guy who made the uncap program is currently in jail right now. still want it? theres no way to uncap a cable connection! all the capping is done at the company not on your box.

I admit I downloaded it, But when I saw the instructions decided not to try it. The instructions were specific about what IP addresses and DNS servers to use. It looked more like a way for someone to have access to your puter without having to look for it. Not only did they give you the addresses to use, they also gave you a neat little program called autoloader that could notify them when your on.

Mine is a "normally" 700+ and it seems instant for me, would 4 times "instant" change it much???

anybody know of any bandwidth test sites that are hosted in australia? when tried the one at msn i get significantly lower speeds than when i actually download something from a site such as www.aarnet.com (http://www.aarnet.com) (which is an australian hosted mirror site, very fast for me compaired to alot of others). I have optus@home cable, they say the d/l is maxed at 360KB/s, and u/l at 16KB/s, altho recently i have been getting higher d/l speeds at aarnet so its possible optus is upgrading their system to help speeds. The u/l capping is still very sucky! i would be much happier if they let it go to something like 64 or even 32 would be way better than just 16! But what can we do besides wish and hope for the best??? not alot it seems. I actually did try a uncapping program, and tested for a brief second (like darrelld i too was alittle worried about the idea of inputing IP, DNS etc.. and the "loader" program so was very skeptical when testing it) but it didn't actually help at all so i wouldn't bother even trying it. I promtly deleted and removed all things related to that program.

Here is a screenshot taken from Scour Exchange, a while back http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
http://24.113.124.19/Cable.jpg

and NO, it is NOT a Photoshop job, although I wish I had the talent to do that http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

nice speed there, BUT even if not done in photoshop (which isn't that hard to do for me anyways), i could still simulate that kinda speeds, bit hard to do now since they shut down scour, but if you had a download waiting to be resumed when u resume it the download speed is actually worked out asif the d/l was started from scratch, so when you already had 40MB done, in the 1st second of d/l u may have only got 200K of data, but it would register as 40,200K, the speed will be wrong until the program catches.

edit: don't take that the wrong way, i'm not saying that it is a false post, just showing the possibilities due to bad software coding, bad coding or not, I MISS SCOUR!!!

Anyhow here is you link to the cable modem hack. http://www.gesc.ttu.edu/pub/

A simple search of this forum found this thread. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/005037.html Read this thread and you will see the hack is a waste of your time but you can try anyhow.
