Hi, a few days ago i posted about this but i didn't mention enough info about this.
Now i can do it.
The problem Is when i'm on win98 sometimes, specially when i run Winamp (but it can happen without winamp runnig too) I get several errors on gdi.exe. Then, every program runnig starts to send the same error on gdi.exe, and when the list ends i get a "blue screen" error. All i can do i to reboot. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif((.
Anyone knows what's happening?. i copied the error number on gdi, it's 0001:0000722c.
My system is a PII350, 64 ram dimm pc100, Cl Riva tnt 16mb, Hp4020i cdrec, 32x Ide teac cdrom, 5.1 ide quantum fireball hdd and 56k Usrobotics winmodem.
Installed software is win98, Explorer 5, Office 2000, Paint shop pro 5, Sound forge 4.5 and a lot of Directx Plugins for sound editing and effects, mirc, icq99 (1800), winamp 2.23, cute ftp 3.0b and AutocadR14.
Please if anyone has any idea what can i do for solving this problem please post it. Thanks a lot in advance.

I am still unclear as to WHAT is causing the error.
Is GDI.EXE causing the error in module xxx.xxx at 0001:0000722c ?
Or, is ???? causing the 'error' in module gdi.exe at 0001:0000722c ?
Is it a General Protection Fault? Invalid Page Fault?
The exact wording would help here. It could be so many things without more detailed info.
If you go to search.microsoft.com/us/default.asp (http://search.microsoft.com/us/default.asp) and type in gdi.exe and search the Knowledge Base, you can see a slew of possible things that it could be. Gotta narrow it down somemore!
Also, after you hit the "close" for the error prompt, hit Ctrl/Alt/Del once to open the Close Program box. Is there anything in there that isn't normally in there?
Also, type sfc in the Start/Run and look for altered/corrupt files. See what comes up. Then you can proceed to extract/replace it from your Win98 CD.
Have you checked Device Manager for any conflicts?
~edit: Did you try Antonio's suggestions re the updated drivers/patches?

Socalgal: Thanks for your tips and links, i'm investigating right now. (and sorry for my english, it's not my native language)
The problem is program X has caused error in module gdi.exe at 0001:0000722c
also i have to say that is a invalid page fault. When i click on "Close" button all programs running start having the same error, same address, one by one, each time i press "Close". then to finish the show i get a General protection fault and i have to reboot.
When i press ctrl-alt-sup there's nothing that isn't normally there, also i have not any device conflicts in device manager and the Sfc utility did not found any corrupted file.
This errors can happen without advice, but i discovered that winamp is the best for starting this sort of errors.
Ahh, i have to mention that i used antivirus and my system is clean. i used updated avp 3.0 and updated Mcaffe virusscan.
I don't want to re-install everything, it take a lot of time http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I don't like reinstalling everything either, Machamix.
Okay. I think we are getting closer.
Does it in the error box,in the "Details" part, say what is "Program X" ?
Please help me though. Get a paper and pencil, and when the error box comes again, click on the Details, and write down exactly the words that it says in the Details.
I think maybe you should uninstall Winamp, since this is generating your errors initially. Go to Control Panel/Add-Remove Program, highlight the Winamp program, then click on Add/Remove. (Or, if Winamp has an uninstall utility, go to Programs, Winamp program and uninstall with that utility).
You can uninstall the program and see if that helps. It concerns me though that Winamp only isn't causing these errors..
anyone, feel free to jump in here http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Machamix - do you have Adobe Type Manager installed?

Unfortunately, I had the same error the other day. Microsoft will recommend to reinstall windows but don't do it. There are some programs that will stay load on memory even after closing them. For instance, Photoshop 4 and 5, Wordperperfect Suite 8, Microsoft Office and so on. After you press control alt delete, you will see that there are still running somewhere in the background. This error (Gdi.exe) will preceed to a "Out of Resources Message". My humble advice, avoid the Antivirus software running in the backgrond and make sure that you close all the programs with control alt del in explorer. Some softwares have fixed this problem like Photoshop 5.5. Hope it helps

It certainly sounds like a software/corrupt software clash to me but just to make sure it is not a marginal piece of hardware try running some system intensive games or benchmarking programs for 1/2 hour or more to see if you are more likely to induce an invalid page fault when the system is stressed.
Now if the system is overclocked this is the time to set it back to manufacturers' specifications:
Try also lowering your memory and disk settings in BIOS and running your system through it's paces again - like repeatedly opening and closing Winamp...if the page faults go away you can bet there is a marginal piece of hardware to blame - most likely memory.
Good luck..
Quickie to Socalgal -you are getting so smart!!!! you really should consider A+ -it's easier than you think!
AAAAnd speaking of reinstalling everything...sometimes it is not just the best way, but the ONLY way - as I'm sure Socalgal will agreeeeeeeeee...

*bloushe* CMonster, I thank you for the kind words, I am not that smart (yet) and I will consider it (seriously) and, ONLY if I have tooo... lol
Another thought - in "Find" do a search for *.cpl and when the list comes up, double click on each one and see if that generates an error. If one does (or more than one), that one will be an offending file and will need to be replaced. (but now that I think of it, he said he ran SFC and found no corrupts. ah!) Try it anyway.
