ssssloooowww shut down

I have win xp home upgrade and the windows is shutting down screen hangs for 2 minutes. Does anyone know what might be going on? There is alot of hd activity during this time. Please get back to me. Thanks

u may want to read this for startup

also download a program called bootvis. it is a great program and can speed up startup and shut down.
