After looking through numerous speaker reviews I have listed 3 possible speaker choices based on quality and availability. (Altec Lansing speakers, for some reason, aren't available in my local high street retailers, or mail order companies). These are:

Cambridge Soundworks CSW-200 Soundworks
Cambridge Soundworks FPS1000
Yamaha YST-MS28

Could someone tell me which one would be best for high quality sound in a relatively small room where the volume won't be turned up very high.

They will be used with a SB Live!Value soundcard for music, DVD movies and occasional gaming.

An option that not yet has surfaced. Do you have an existing Music System? It only may require a simple adaptor cord to feed computer sound into the typical music system.

I've got the Cambridge Soundworks in my small apartment, where I can't play anything too loud. They do the job just fine. But maybe you should try to listen to each set of speakers in a shop somewhere. We all have different views on speakers.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult because they are all excellent choices. I would say price will be the best way to decide this.

well,if the fps1000's are anything like the fps2000(which rock)and are only 135.00 on the net. Then I say go for the grand. The fps 2000's i have are hooked to a sblive and dvd and I am extremely surprised at the sound quality that I get from them.

I'd definitely recommend going for a 4-speaker surround system with subwoofer. I have the Cambridge Soundworks original FPS system, and I'm very happy with it.

The dog on them is that they don't get near as loud as something like an Altec Lansing ACS-48 (well, I don't think anything does http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif). I also live in an apartment so I don't get to max my speakers out at anytime anyway.

Get a 4 speaker setup. You'll be glad you did (Can anyone say Need For Speed: High Stakes?).

Another set to consider are the MidiLand S2-4030, or their larger set. I use them and consider them an excellent choice. Outpost.com is a good source.
