win xp pro reboots itself

i have win xp pro running on an athlon 750 processor. ever since i installed it (new install, i had win 2k prior), every one & then, the pc seems to reboot it's self for no apparent reasons, whether i have apps opened or not.

when i had win 2k, i never encountered such a problem.

any ideas why this is happening?

do i need any patches?

Well your having the same problem Me and a lot of other people have had. You probley get a message with the option to send a report to M$. Let me know what your system specs are, so I can have a better idea what your up against. TJ

i have a athlon 750, with 196 meg ram, pc100. i had win 2k running b4 without any problems until i installed xp.

i get no driver conflicts error msgs or nothing. i'm not sure of whether it's an xp bug or not

What Sound,Video and Mobo do you use. I've been racking my noodle day and night trying to find the problem. I also can't seem to find and answers. Try looking under your system log it can give you an idea of what errors have occured. Also is your xp and OEM product by any chance. TJ

See if this applies:

By default when WinXP encounters a system failure, it reboots without
warning. The setting that controls this can be changed:

Control Panel/System/Advanced/Settings (Startup & Recovery)/System
Failure/Uncheck-Automatically Restart.

To view the event log: Admistrative Tools/Event Viewer or
Start/Run/eventvwr.
