I bought this 333 slot 1,, anyway I installed it in a machine... worked fine.. went to unstall in another machine.. and forgot to reset the jumpers... "they were still set to 233".. both machines operate at a 66 fsb.. and both processors as well... now the 333 gives me nothing.. in either machine.. but both machines will accept the 233... no problems... did I fry that 333 or what... I can't understand how as the voltage wouldn't be greater at 233... I've been reading but no answers yet... can anyone help me out.. to find out if this thing is dead ...?????? thanks tom..

Perhaps not fried, but static damage? I think you would be most unlucky to fry the chip whilst underclocking.

Are you sure there was no voltage difference?Did it work at all in the second machine? Was the first machine switched off when you took it back out again?

Did you de-satic your sefl or were an anti-static wrist band?

I did wear an anti static wrist band and took care about the anti static environment.. and yes the puter was shut off... I've done this before... several times that is why this situation perplexes me... the board I underclocked it in is a epox kp6-fx2, it also has jumpers for option... which I assume is for the 333,, as they are located directly after the 300 jumpers.... and the boards manual states that it will accept up to a 333... " hold the phone,, just read that the boards threshold is 300...",,, anyway is there any type of way to run diagnostics on this processor... to see if it has been corrupted or not... will not even post.... ???? multimeter or anything... I don't know.. thank you for your help... tom. Maybe too may volts... I don't know...

The test you did already is the one I would I would have done myself.

However,

can you get hold of a 333 system you know works and swap chips? I just have a nagging doubt about the cpu's being different, so you might not be comparing apples.

If you bung it in a 333 system you know works and it fails, easy. Dead Chip. I bet you don't have access to one? Can you get another 333 from anywhere or can you get another board cheap?

From what you imply, your guessing some of the jumper settings?

Have you tried upping the cpu volts to max, if it's dead anyway no harm done. If it posts, kill the power and work out what the highest volt setting should be.

Life is a bowl of cherries.
