I sent an e mail to a friend from my new hot mail account and when she received it she said there was a line of text in red beneath the subject that said "this message is being watched" ?? Her ISP tech support said it probably was just a prank. Anyone know anything about this?

If in fact anything was added in text to the original message, someone added it and that person obviously had the message open to view it. If it was not the sender, then a violation of privacy was committed.

BBA is right, but the question is, who is watching? Microsoft? The government? I remember reading something (don't know if its true)like that but it happened in AOL. The difference was they don't tell you in the message its being monitored (but if you read their "Terms of Service" it may suggest that they have the right to), they combed the emails stored on their servers for things that might suggest child porn rings, drugs, etc and handed them over to the FBI if they are deemed serious. Hot Mail may follow a similar procedure, if that is true. Don't worry unless your messages get altered to some extent where they no longer carry your original intent.

It's probably the Government (whose? Anybodys) But does it really matter? Just keep all your stuff innocuous, and we'll all live happily ever after, at least until Jan 1,2000!!!

There are no privacy laws concerning e-mail for public use, only government. They can intercept and read if they want to, ask yourself this, what makes you so important?

Hot Mail has a reputation for unsecure and totally "hackable" transmissions via E-mail. I read this somewhere on the net. When I find out where I'll edit this and let you know. I specifically did not use them because I read a warning about them.
