in buying a hard drive is there a very noticeable difference between 5400 and 7200?

i notice that i can save about $20 if i go with a 5400rpm.. but i don't really wanna sacrafice speed that much

I would say spend the extra 20 bucks and go for the 7200.

what do you do on your computer?

I upgrade from a 20gig 5400rpm Fujitsu driver to a 60gig 7200rpm Matxtor drive. My computer is at least twice as fast during disk access, usually more!

What if my mobo supports only udma33 (:(), is there any reason for me to switch my drives (13gb udma 5400 is primary, 60gb ata133 7200 is slave) around?

he said to set the udma33 to slave only if your mobo supports higher that way your 100/133 doesn't slow down to the 33 :)

Hey i have the same question. I would like to get a new HD(4gb isn't cutting it :p) and i want to know that if I get an UDMA 100(or ATA 100 whatever they call it) that theres that much of a performance increase from 5400 to 7200. Cause i don't have the much money(it'll take me about 3 months to save up enough for 5400RPM) is it worth the extra 4 weeks for me to wait to get it?

I mainly run games and 3d Studio Max, Photoshop 6, and the like.
I heard somewhere that it only makes a real big difference if your working with large files(which i don't, i think the biggest i have is like 10mb). Thanks :)

you're right about running large files.. i think you can manage off of a 5400rpm.. by the way what size hdd are you looking for? i know a few places online that have very competitive prices

I was going to get either a 40 or 60gb. I was probably going to get the cheapest Maxtor or Wester Digital hd from pricewatch.
