I recently got 128 mb of ram to upgrade my current 128 mb of ram. Both are pc133, and 7.5ns. Both are said to be microns, but the first chip that i got have the chips going horizontal (only able to fit like 4 chips going across the chip) and my new chip has 8 chips going vertical. Y is this? Is there something wrong with the chips looking different? THey appear to run ok. I'm gonna use sisoft sandra today to benchmark it, but i was wondering if anyone knew what the different layout means, and does it affect performance. Thanks for any help.

I don't know exactly the reason, but I have had the same thing happen to me with Micron RAM. Two identical chips in name and specs but they look different. It should not affect your benchmarks drastically, if at all.

What you got are two different DIMMs made by two different vendors who happen to use same Micron chips. In theory, they should both perform identically. Micron only produces their own line of PCB's under the Crucial label. Yes, you do have DIMMs with Micron RAM modules, but NO, they are not produced by Micron.

does it matter that one's 16x8 and the other is 8x8? Does this affect performance? The system still freezes with this new ram.
