Hello All,
I have two PCs networked through a 4 port hub, which is linked to the internet through a Netgear RT311 router. I am connecting using Verizon DSL. I setup up both PCs to run Verizon's WinPoet software to access the net directly. I was able to get connected with each directly. However, I am only able to connect with one of the PCs through the router. The RT311 enables dialog between it and a PC through Telnet to a default address. However I cannot access my router through this other PC. The connection between the PCs through the network is fine. But I cannot ping the router or the other PC. I had two nic cards in this pc because I use to have it connected to the network and another DSL carrier, but I replaced all of my nic cards with another card that I had laying around. I have also deleted all of my settings (TCPIP,etc) and re-installed them. After vspending much time with Netgear, Verizon, 3Com and Black Box technical support I thought I might try some people who might really know what they are doing...

If all else fails use Windows Internet connection Sharing.

You said these 2 PCs were once connected through a network. Do you have the router set as DHCP?? If you do look at the original network server(the PC used as the network server prior to installing the router) is DHCP disabled?? If it is enabled, disable it.

Does the Router have MAC address cloing? If not use the MAC address of the machine that was connected to the internet to set as the router's new MAC address. I am assuming you have a broadband connection.

Router IP address 192.168.1.0

PC #1 IP add. : 192.168.1.2
PC #2 IP add. : 192.168.1.3

In network properties on both machines obtain IP addresses automatically. Since the router is being used as a gateway to the internet enable DHCP on the router. The cards will auto detect settings.

This should get you going.

the router ip address has to end in 1... an address ending in 0 with that address indicates a network address and not an individual ip =)
