ok, i have an AMD duron 800. Overclocked to 950. it's been that way for a few months, and has never gone past 35 C temp.
Now, this afternoon, it didn't boot properly. Windows 2k crashed on me, which is quite a rare occurence. So i check the BIOS, and what do you know, the voltage is set at 1.6 for some reason. I had it at 1.825 before.
So, i set it to 1.825 and reboot. But it stayed at 1.6v. didn't go up. tried several times. Now i'm back down to 800 at 1.6v, which is noticeably worse performance. I have an AOpen AK73 Pro motherboard... any help?

Sounds like a fried cpu.
if it was fried, it wouldn't be working at all.

JKL, how much of a load are you puttin on your PSU. Do you have like a ton of peripherals. Could the PSU just not have the juice to deliver? I know this is a long shot but short of it being a mobo malfuction, i can't think of anything else to cause that except a compromised power supply unit. Just my thoughts....can you like switch it out with a bigger one to test it at your local friends house or puter shop? If your processor is running fine at default, i doubt seriously, well you know the rest right? :D
i don't have any peripherals at all. It's just me, my comp, my moniter hooked up to a hub. and everything's got its own plug.
OK, something weird just came up. I decided to test it one more time overclocked... this time, it's working fine at 950. but every once in a while the CMOS resets the voltage to 1.6v after rebooting- i just have to watch the voltage detection while it's booting up

I had this problem with an older system a while back. It turned out to be the battery that is mounted on the motherboard. I replaced the battery... set the bios the way that I wanted them... and the settings stayed.
Try that... the battery will cost about a dollar US. cheap fix, if that is all it is.
Good Luck

Bad choice of words. What I was trying to say was that overclocking can wear down you cpu to the point that it won't overclock anymore. There have been other posts out here that talk to that affect.
