hello Guys

I run a prepress house for which i am looking for a very good workstation. I use photoshop coreldraw and pagemaker( all latest versions) to get the jobs done. the file sizes are always from 100 MB to 400Mb.
this type of load on the system brings down it to a crawl.

I seek wise advice on what system specs i should invest. Can i go for quad pentium pros of dual p3s or rdram or ddrram ?????!!!!!.
i simply don't know if all these boards will be available or not?
Kindly advice a system with high processing power and high output both at the same time

Well, with the newer DDR ram coming, if you can, you may want to wait a short while (4-5 months) before the mobos and bugs are worked out. Don't ever buy the first of a new type of mobo, they are usually not the best option.

If you need a system now, I would get this:
--Abit K7T RAID w/ Athlon T-bird 750 ($282 for combo for overclocking) or the 900 ($342 for combo)
--2 sticks of PC133 256MB SDRAM (runs about $200 for both now for generic)
--2- IBM ATA100 hdds in RAID for fast data throughput (2-30GB 7200rpm ATA100 drives- $278 for both)
--Not sure if the GeForce IIMX or the GeForceII GTS or the GeForce II Ultra 64 would be best. If the MX does 2D as well as the others, then go for it and save $100.
--Diamond MX400 or SBLive Value (~$60)
--a cd-burner is a nice option with the images ranging from 100 to 400MB.

On RDRAM and DDR RAm, this is a controversial topic right now. Some show that RDRAM on the P4's is superfast, and with RDRAM prices dropping this is an option. The DDR RAM is less expensive and should work in both AMD and INTEL machines while RDRAM will only work in INTEL machines. So, with this said, this is why I hedge on buying this newer technology right now because it is a gamble.

As for multiprocessors, I am clueless. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
