Oh, trying to burn some stuff into my CD-RW's CDs but after like 3 seconds of burning, my computer froze up. I've wasted 3 CD-RW doing that. Now, i'm trying to erase the CD or even Format the CD, but as soon I put it into my CD-RW drive, the CD won't stop spinning. How am i suppose to format or erase it? Doesn't seem to work. Please help...really want to recover my CDs back.

Thanks in advance!

It might help if you state your OS and RW software.

I don't see any point stating OS, but here it goes:

Windows XP Professional Edition
Easy CD Creator 5.02 Platinum Edition
HP CD-Writer CD12.

I've tried it on my friend's computer and same stuff happened...won't stop spinning.

TO MUCHMARK: What did you do? Threw them out? It's useless, right?

Thanks again.

There are some big problems with XP and Direct CD, did you apply all the patches from Roxio see here. (http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/xpup.jhtml)

I'm sure my cd-rom drive is not bad. I can burn stuff with it. It's just that time, i guess. But anyway, is there a way i can erase my cd? cause it won't stop spinning, which makes it non-readable. And when that happens, any erasing cd software won't be able to pick up the cd.

it only happens to those cd's? cd-rw only?

have you been able to burn with cdrw before not only cdr?

I've figured out half of the problem. I have two drives: Primary is Pioneer DVD 16x and Secondary drive on same IDE cable is my HP CD-Writer CD12. When i my primary one is active (like playing) and i'm using the secondary one to burn, it causes an error or freeze my computer while i burn (burns up to 3% only). The problem? I have no clue, but that's how i've messed up 3 CD-RW and a few CD-R.

I know that my drives making errors, but for now, when i burn cd's, i'll just make sure that i'm not using my DVD drive. But what i'm concerned about is how can i erase my 3 CD-RW that i've messed up with so i can use it back again.....so far...my best guess is send it to the company for warranty?

I just wanted to quote you on your message.

Im not quite sure if im right on this.....but quote me if im wrong:D

Didnt it say it somewhere in the documentation to close all running applications before proceeding. You cant be running any other programs while its burning a cd. You will definately be burning a coaster. Hp drives dont support underrun.

Being the user of a hp 9300i. I have made many coasters in my time. Since then i have purchased a plextor 24/10/40A and loving it...:D :D

As for you drive continously spinning. it is trying to detect the cd. Since the system crashed while it was burning. The cd wasnt written properly and is scanning for tracks that make the cd readable, which are not on the cd since the system crashed. The cd's in my opinion are nothing but frisbees.

You also mentioned about an error? What is this error? The only error that comes to mind is underrun......Post back and let us know.....So we can get you back up and RUNNING.....:D :D :D

Yo rockinmale thanks for helping me out. But about the error, you're right, it's the underrun thingy.

One more thing, there's absolutely no way i can format my cd or erase it? not even in linux or dos, or special software? If so, i guess it's gonna be a frisbee than, unless Maxell gives me warranty.

Thanks a bunch!

Okay, I know this isn't exactly true to the thread's subject, but since we're on the topic of issues with burning. I thought I would relay a gaffe I made. I made 3 coasters with the new Yamaha burner (20x10x40) I just purchased to replace my old HP 9110i. How can this be happening because the drive automatically detects the speed capability of the media?! Its not due to underruns because the Yamaha has an 8mb cache. It was simply the media I used. I used the same Imation CDRs for the Yamaha as I did with the HP and that was my mistake. I forgot to check Yamaha's recommended media list. Lo and behold, Imation was not listed, but TDK media was. Made a quick purchase and everything is all good. I'll also add as a side note, that I've had MUCH better results with Nero Burning Rom than Easy CD Creator.

Check back with the yamaha site every now and then. They could put out a new firmware update that will be able read new media as well as fix any minor issues with the drive..........:D :D :D

If you use an 'Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver' or 'Intel Applications Accelerator' utility then remove it. I had the same problem, and this solved it.

AHA! My once wasted CD-RWs' are now back and ready to go for more burning now! What I did was put it into my cd-rw drive and waited until it stopped spinning. Then, I opened one of those erasing software and it erased everything! I'm so happy that I've got my 3 CD-RWs' back.

I'd like to thank you for all your ideas and help. Thanks!

Hmms, isn't that a quite normal procedure to try before asking for help? :)
Cause the CDRW drive won't be able to read badly written cd's, stops spinning after a while. It gives up..and then you just open the cd-rw program and choose erase..

Well, thats what i've always done with badly written CDRWs :)
Took alot of trying to get it right when you finally decided to do it the 'right' way? :)
